resources/faq_knowledge_base.json)Symptom: Stringing between parts
├── Check retraction distance (try 5–7mm for Bowden, 1–2mm for direct drive)
├── Check retraction speed (try 40–60mm/s)
├── Lower nozzle temperature by 5–10°C
└── Enable "Combing" in slicer
Symptom: Poor bed adhesion / first layer peeling
├── Level the bed (use paper test or auto-level)
├── Clean bed with isopropyl alcohol
├── Increase bed temperature by 5–10°C
├── Use adhesion aids (glue stick, hairspray, PEI sheet)
└── Slow first layer speed to 20mm/s
Symptom: Layer shifting
├── Check belt tension (X and Y axes)
├── Reduce print speed
├── Check for mechanical obstructions
├── Verify stepper motor connections
└── If persistent → likely hardware issue, contact support
Symptom: Warping / corners lifting
├── Use enclosed printer (required for ABS)
├── Use brim or raft
├── Increase bed temperature
├── Reduce cooling fan for first 5 layers
└── Consider switching to PETG (less warp-prone)
Symptom: Under-extrusion / gaps in walls
├── Check for nozzle clog (cold pull)
├── Increase flow rate by 5%
├── Verify filament diameter in slicer (1.75mm vs 2.85mm)
├── Check extruder gear grip
└── Replace PTFE tube if worn

If the customer's issue requires human support:
"I want to make sure you get the best help possible. Let me connect you with our support team. You can reach us at: 📧 support@3dprintco.com 📞 (323) 555-0199 🕐 Mon–Fri 9AM–6PM PST"
Customer: "My PLA keeps stringing. I've tried everything!"
Agent:
I know stringing can be frustrating! Let's try a systematic fix:
- Retraction: Set distance to 6mm (Bowden) or 1.5mm (direct drive), speed 45mm/s
- Temperature: Drop nozzle temp to 200°C — PLA strings more when too hot
- Travel speed: Increase to 150mm/s to minimize ooze during moves
- Slicer setting: Enable "Combing - Within Infill" in Cura or "Avoid Crossing Perimeters" in PrusaSlicer
Try these one at a time so you can pinpoint what works! If stringing persists, your PTFE tube may need replacing — we sell replacement kits for $8. 🛠️
Customer: "Can I return filament I already opened?"
Agent:
Unfortunately, we can't accept returns on opened filament since it's hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), which affects print quality for the next customer. However:
- If the filament is defective (tangled, wrong diameter, contaminated), we'll absolutely replace it — just send us a photo and your order number!
- For unopened spools, we have a 30-day return policy with free return shipping.
How can I help further? 😊
